Code of Ethics to Check Malpractice and Plagiarism in Research

Government College Balrampurstrictly follows the code of conduct prescribed by the University forExaminations. Malpractices such as copying from various sources or using cellphones are completely banned. Any kind of malpractice in the sliptests/internal assessment tests is reported to the Examination Committee whichin turn directs to the Principal. The academic council takes action on thedefaulters.

The malpractices include:

·        Copying from books, electronic devices or anyother means during the examination

·        Copying the answers from other students.

·        Communicating with others during the examination.

·        Disobedience/Misbehaviour in the examinationhall.

Malpractice during the UniversityExaminations is reported to the External Examiner and the University takesaction on the defaulters.

Preamble

The academic activities such asteaching and research are closely associated with ethics, which are the mostsignificant elements of the academic. Teaching and research forms a novelcombination of knowledge transfer which needs freedom to express the knowledgein the ethical way. It includes the freedom to inquire for innovation of newthings in subject to encourage intellectual concern, to present findings, topublish data and conclusions without control or censorship and to teach in themanner they consider professionally appropriate. This requires integrity withthe teaching and research.

Objectives

Ourinstitution is committed to upholding the highest standard of ethics inresearch and takes all possible measures against any malpractices andplagiarism in research work. The ideals of originality, secrecy and moralityare imbibed in students and they are made aware of wrong concepts ofplagiarism. The main objective is to create academic awareness about theresponsible conduct of research, study, project work, assignments anddissertations, promotion of academic integrity and prevention of misconductincluding plagiarism in academic writing among students, researchersand faculties of institution.

Our institution is keen toimplant and endorse the culture of honesty and transparency in all its researchactivities while allowing academic freedom for innovative thinking.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is considered as an academic dishonest of using anotherperson’s ideas, information or expressions without acknowledging that person’swork constitutes intellectual theft. Plagiarism is sometimes a moral andethical offense rather than a legal one since some instances of plagiarism falloutside the scope of copyright infringement, a legal offense.

 Avoiding Plagiarism

Plagiarism could be avoided by citing/ quoting/referencing the original work. Researchershould submit the progress report on regular basis to the research supervisor of the project or dissertation. Citing is one of the effective ways to avoidplagiarism. Quoting must be done correctly to avoid plagiarism allegations. Itis mandatory for the research student and supervisor to submit the declarationcertificate stating that the work carried out by them is original and citationsare as per norms.  

Shortening of plagiarism

To detect plagiarism, students are supposed to check their research report through the online plagiarismsoftware. For the plagiarism check institute follows guidelines of the affiliated university and UGC. UGC recommends Zero Tolerance Policy on plagiarism in the core work claimed. The core work shall include abstract,summary, hypothesis, observations, conclusions and recommendations.

Action against Defaulters

Any violation of the rule and other issue, complaints regarding plagiarism attracts disciplinary action to be imposed by committee within one month from the day ofcomplaint. Depending on the type of act and violation of code of ethics,suitable penalty or punishment against defaulters will be penalized.
